BASIC CPR and FIRST AID
Learn to save a life and become certified in CPR and First Aid. These courses teach the course participants, the critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) takes over. Depending on the Course, participants will learn how to recognize, respond to and treat a variety of first aid emergencies, and perform CPR in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest. Timely and appropriate bystander care followed by a quick response from professional rescuers gives victims of injury or sudden illness their best chance of survival.
First Aid is the Initial care given by a responder with little equipment to someone who is injured or suddenly becomes ill. These courses are designed to give First aid providers the knowledge and skills needed to respond confidently and effectively in an emergency.
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, striking more than 340,000 victims each year, and hundreds of thousands more worldwide. More people die from SCA than from breast cancer, prostrate cancer, house fires, guns, traffic accidents and AIDS combined.
SCA can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Without quick and effective bystander intervention, the chance of survival is less than 5%.
With Effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival. With the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), can increase a victim’s chance of survival by 70 – 90%
Unless CPR and defibrillation are provided within minutes of collapse, few attempts at resuscitation are successful.
The goal of this training is to make the community, home and work environment safer by preventing illness and injury as well as quickly recognizing and responding to emergencies to save a life or reduce disability.
